Wanfenglin Peak Forest
Description
Wanfanglin Peak Forest is located near Xingyi city with a total area of 2,000 square kilometers, which is nearly two-thirds area of Xingyi City. It reaches east of Pogang Village, south of Guangxi Province, west of Sanjiangkou Town(junction of Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi Province) and north of Wumeng Mountain’s main peak.
Three hundred million years ago, Wanfenglin Peak Forest’s region was a part of ancient sea of Yunnan-Guizhou Province. It has experienced Yanshan Mountain, Indosinian and Himalayan orogeny for many times, the limestone apophyses are coefficient with scorching sun, rainwater, carbon dioxide, and organic acid, and has formed marvelous spectacles such as karst cave, peak forest, sinkhole, rift valley, stalactite, stalagmite and so on. Whatever we discuss the aspects of its aesthetic value, the evolutionary process of karst landform’s integrity, the abundance of surviving relics, the area of concentrated-tapering peak forest, or the landscape’s typicality, Wanfenglin Peak Forest is a marvellous scenery.
In 1638, travel-stained Xu Xiake(1587-1641 AD, the most geographer in Ming Dynasty in China)wrote a poem “There are numerous mountains in China, Only here is peak forest.” After that, the majestic Wanfenglin Peak Forest is well-known in China.
Wanfenglin Peak Forest is located in the midstream and downstream of Malinghe River Gorge, it is divided into eastern and western peak forest. It is fanned at the edge of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau which altitude is over 2000 meters. Usually, it can be divided into five types like pawns, swords, Chinese dragons, castellers and pile caps. It has formed Wanfeng Lake because of Tiansheng Bridge Hydropower Station, Wanfenglin Peak Forest is extending to the Nanpan River rift valley’s fault zone. Some peaks are submerged under water, karst stones and woods intersperse in it, and it shows majestic views.
Peaks in Wanfenglin are not very high, but it serried like bamboo shoots and forms potential of the spectacular. When you look into the distance, the cinerous peaks and yellow-green fields enhance each other’s beauty; the curving Nahui River looks like a silver chain, which put villages along the way in series like pearl ring, it makes up a beautiful-widen natural scroll painting. Therefore, the folk songs in local Buyi and Miao ethnic groups, Wanfenglin Peak Forest is their holy land.
Eastern Peak Forest shines for fields while Western Peak Forest absorbs for water. Wanfenglin Peak Forest, famous for its rural scenery and reflect highlights on Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
