Long Horn Miao people mainly live in the villages around Suoga township. The locations they live are often among mountains which are over 2,000m high. The rock mountains cannot give them enough food, water or clothes since many years ago. In order to have a safe shelter to live from wars, they moved from north China to southwest until this area. When did it start? Nobody can tell the detailed date or year now, even they themselves cannot either. I have tried to asked them this questions already."Many many years ago" is often used when they tell their old stories to their kids.Their ancestors have taught them a good way and give them a good ability to make a living and they know how to surve from the hard high mountains.
The Longhorn Miao are one of the largest Miao groups among 120 Miao groups in Guizhou. For many years, this Miao group was untouched by tourism until over the past 17 years when the gates of their villages for visitors have been opened.
The Miao Village has breathtaking scenic views and makes any visitor wish to stay there and stare. The entire village is surrounded karst mountains and with an abundance of natural air, light, animals, and birds. Visitors are greeted with utmost warmth in the Longhorn Miao Village as the villagers are very polite. Once you reach the village, you can choose to walk through it and you can smell the animals.People often say"you do not need look for a local toilet with your eyes but with your nose." So natural.
Women in the Miao Village are the real identity for the outside world. They are experts in embroidery and they learn embroidery making at a very young age. Another important and the most noticeable thing about the Miao women is the hair on their heads. In order to have a big headdress, girls mother and grandmother try to leave hair by cutting year by year. And they believe it is a good way to give their daughter a chance to remember them in the future and also offer the younger generation a good luck.
